actor and comedian. Chieng is currently a senior correspondent on The Daily
Show on Comedy Central and creator and star of the sitcom Ronny Chieng
International Student which began airing on ABC (Australia) and Comedy Central
Asia in 2017. Chieng was born into an Malaysian Chinese family. He was born in
Johor Bahru. From 1989 until 1994, he resided in Manchester in New Hampshire.
Chieng appeared with Trevor Noah at a Melbourne comedy festival in 2013. Chieng
was invited to audition for The Daily Show's correspondent role two years
later. Chieng was named one of the 10 Comics to Watch in the July issue of
Variety. In October of 2016, Chieng joined The Daily Show to discuss the
controversy surrounding a Jesse Watters Fox News segment many thought to be
racist. Chieng is known for his expletive-laden criticism of the segment on the
conservative network. He also visited New York City's Chinatown in which
Watters joked about residents. The video went viral and was covered by the

Singapore Sea Scout. Chieng hasn't been able to gain citizenship or permanent
residence status in Australia despite having lived in Australia for 10 years.
Chieng joked in 2018 that the cynophobe was his name, but later claimed that he
was 100 % not scared of dogs.
